【ロングモント市・茅野市姉妹都市提携35周年記念事業】ロングモント市長あいさつ全文

茅野市は、アメリカ合衆国コロラド州ロングモント市と平成2年（1990年）に姉妹都市提携を結び、令和7年（2025年）で35周年を迎えました。これを記念し、令和7年3月20日（木曜日・祝日）に茅野市民館マルチホールにおいて記念事業「ロングモント市・茅野市姉妹都市提携35周年記念事業　記念式典・ジョイントコンサート」を開催しました。

記念式典では、ロングモント市長　ジョーン・ペック市長からご挨拶をいただきました。このページでは、挨拶文をご紹介します。

ロングモント市　ジョーン・ペック市長　あいさつ

I am truly honored to be here today with such an inspiring group of young people, dedicated host families, and members of the International Club. On behalf of our entire delegation, I want to extend my deepest thanks to all of you for the incredible warmth, generosity, and hospitality you’ve shown us during this exchange.

Like many of you, it is my first time in Japan and I can already tell that this trip will be a transformative one for all of us.

To our American and Japanese youth, you are the heart of this exchange. I’ve had the privilege of meeting many of you, and I’ve seen firsthand how open and eager you are to experience new cultures and build lasting friendships. As young ambassadors of Longmont, you represent our city’s hopes for the future. What you’re learning here in Chino—about different ways of life, about art, music, and traditions—will stay with you for the rest of your lives. More importantly, what you’re experiencing now will help shape the way you view the world, and it will shape the way the world views you. As you share your music with us, you are not only offering us the beauty of your talent but also opening doors to a deeper understanding of who you are and where you come from. Music is a universal language—one that transcends borders and unites us all. The fact that music is a part of our exchange speaks to the power of art in fostering global bonds.

To the host families: Thank you. Your role in this exchange is priceless. You have opened your homes and hearts to our students, and for that, we are profoundly grateful.

The relationships that you are helping to build are not just important for this trip, but they will be lasting. By welcoming these students into your lives, you are making a powerful statement about the values of kindness, understanding, and hospitality. What you are offering is more than just a place to stay—you are offering a window into your lives, your culture, and your community. These experiences will stay with our students long after they return to Longmont. You are helping shape the next generation of global citizens, and your impact is immeasurable.

I would like to express my gratitude to the International Club. Thank you for being the bridge between our two communities. The work you do behind the scenes helps make these experiences possible and meaningful. Your commitment to building cultural understanding and strengthening the bond between Longmont and Chino is something that will be felt for years to come.

The ties between Longmont and Chino have already lasted 35 years, and with the energy and enthusiasm of this exchange program, I am confident that we will continue to build something even more lasting.

What you are experiencing here is just the beginning. You are part of something much bigger—a legacy of mutual respect, cultural appreciation, and international cooperation that will continue for generations. Thank you once again for your hospitality and for making this experience so meaningful.

In closing, let me say how deeply grateful we are for this exchange. It’s been an incredible experience already, and I’m excited to see the lasting impact this will have on each of you, our communities, and the world.

本日ここに、志を同じくする若者の皆さん、心温かいホストファミリーの皆さん、そして茅野国際クラブの皆さんとご一緒でき、心から光栄に思います。私たちロングモント団一行を代表して、皆さまの温かさ、寛大さ、そして素晴らしいおもてなしに、心より感謝申し上げます。

ロングモントから来日した多くの皆さんと同様に、私も今回が初めての日本訪問ですが、すでにこの旅が私たち全員にとって大きな転機になることを感じています。

両市の若者の皆さん、皆さんがこの交流の中心的な存在です。多くの子どもたちにお会いする機会がありましたが、今回の滞在中、新しい文化に触れ、深い友情を築こうとする前向きな姿勢を間近で見ることができました。皆さんはロングモントの若き親善大使として、私たちのまちの未来への希望を担う存在です。

茅野市で体験した異なる暮らし方やアート、音楽、そして伝統は、これからの人生を通じて、ずっと心に残ることでしょう。そしてさらに大切なのは、今ここでの体験が世界の見方を形成すると同時に、世界が皆さんを見る視点にも影響を与えるということです。

皆さんが音楽を通して私たちと想いを分かち合う時、それは皆さんの才能の美しさを届けてくれるだけでなく、皆さん自身やその原点への理解を深める扉が開かれます。音楽は国境を越えて私たちを繋ぐ世界共通の言語です。音楽が私たちの交流の一部であるという事実は、アートが国際的な繋がりを育む力を持っていることを物語っています。

ホストファミリーの皆さま、ロングモントの学生を温かく迎え入れてくださり、ありがとうございます。皆さまのこの交流における役割は、かけがえのないものです。ご自宅と心を私たちの生徒たちに開いてくださったことに、心より感謝申し上げます。

皆さまが築いてくださっている繋がりは、今回の滞在だけでなく、これからも長く続いていく大切な関係です。ロングモントの学生を温かく迎え入れてくださることは、思いやりや理解、そしておもてなしの心を大切にされていることを、何よりも雄弁に物語っています。

皆さまが提供してくださっているのは、単なる宿泊場所ではありません。皆さまの日常や文化、そして地域社会を垣間見ることができる、貴重な機会そのものです。こうした体験は、学生がロングモントに戻った後も、ずっと心に残り続けることでしょう。

皆さまは、次世代のグローバル市民を育てるうえで大きな役割を果たしてくださっており、その影響は計り知れません。

茅野国際クラブの皆さまに、心より感謝を申し上げます。私たちとのコミュニティをつなぐ架け橋となってくださり、ありがとうございます。皆さまが舞台裏で重ねてこられた尽力によって、このような貴重で意味のある体験が実現しています。

文化的な理解を深め、ロングモントと茅野の絆を強めようとする皆さまの取り組みは、これからも長く私たちの心に残り続けることでしょう。

ロングモント市と茅野市の絆はすでに35年間続いていますが、この交流事業の活気と熱意によって今後さらに長く続く関係を築いていけると確信しています。

今回の交流は始まりにすぎません。皆さんは、世代を超えて受け継がれていく相互の敬意、文化への理解、そして国際的な協力という、もっと大きな遺産の一部です。

訪問にあたり、心温まるおもてなしと、この経験をより意味深いものにしてくださったことに、改めて感謝申し上げます。

最後になりますが、この交流に対する心からの感謝の気持ちをお伝えしたいと思います。
すでに素晴らしい経験となっていますが、今回の経験が皆さん一人ひとり、そして私たちのコミュニティ、さらに世界にどのような影響をもたらすのか、とても楽しみにしています。
