Single Parent Child Care Allowance Program (JIDO-FUYO-TEATE)
Single Parent Child Care Allowance is provided to help support single mothers in raising healthy children and in maintaining a solid and independent family life.
Qualification:
A mother or grandparent(s) who is raising a child under 18 years old who is falls in one of the circumstances described below;
- Child living only with the mother, the grandmother or/and grandfather on the mother’s side, or other applicable family members after the parents divorce.
- Child whose father has died.
- Child whose father is experiencing severe disability.
- Child born out of wedlock.
- Child whose parents are unknown.
Being registered as a foreign resident with an appropriate resident status. Resident status based on a short stay visa or a business visa is not applicable.
Inapplicable Cases:
- The applicant is not registered as a foreign resident in Japan.
- Public pension or public compensation is provided due to one of the parent’s death.
- The child is institutionalized in a child welfare facility or adopted in a foster home.
- The parent is living with a partner with/without an official marriage registration.
- 5 years has passed as of 4 / 1 / 2003 since the family became applicable for the program without applying.
Allowance Amount:
Full Amount: 41,720 yen per month per child
Partial Amount: 9,850 yen - 41,710 yen per month per child
The amount is decided based on the number of the applicant’s children and the applicant’s income in the previous year.
When the applicant has more than the predetermined income, all or a partial amount of the allowance will not be provided.
In order to determine the amount of allowance, please file the annual income tax return properly.
