Medical Insurance System

 Medical Insurance System is a mutual aid system that everybody pays into, in order to help with medical expenses. The amount each individual pays is based upon their income.

 

Employer-Sponsored Health Insurance Plan (Kenko-hoken)

For those who are employed by a company.The company will take care of the procedure for application and payment. The insurance fee will be deducted from the salary.

 

National Health Insurance Plan (Kokumin-kenko-hoken)

Qualification:

Being registered as a foreign resident.

Having more than 1 year of the remaining period of your residential status

Details:

When you receive medical treatments at a medical institution, the insurance will pay 70% of the cost and you pay 30% of the cost (copayment) at the institution.

  • When your copayment to one medical institution in a month is more than the predetermined amount, the excess payment will be returned upon your request.
  • When you give a birth in a 4th month pregnancy or later, the predetermined amount of aid (300,000 yen) is provided upon your request.
  • When you visit a medial institution, please show your National Health Insurance certificate at the reception.

Costs for health checkup, immunization, cosmetic surgery, orthodontic treatment, and normal birth, and the medical cost due to job-related injury and sickness are not covered by National Health Insurance.

Please report the case as below to Health Division (Hoken-ka).

  1.  When you join another health insurance plan or when you hope to withdraw from National Health Insurance Plan.
  2. When you move in or out of Chino city.
  3. When your baby is born.
  4. When a family member dies.
  5. When your name, address, or head of the household is changed.
  6. When you become 70 years old.
  7. When you lose your National Health Insurance certificate.

Insurance Fee:

The amount of fee is calculated based on the number of family members using the plan and the income of each family member using the plan in the previous year (Jan.-Dec.).

If you have not paid resident tax in Japan, your insurance fee will be based on a per capita and household basis. Please pay insurance fee for each term at Chino City Hall, a bank, or a post office.

Application: Health Division (Hoken-ka)

Submission: Foreign Registration Certificate (Gaikokujin-toroku-shomeisho). If the remaining period of your resident status is under a year, you need to submit documents showing that you will stay in the country more than a year.
